Mark Leibowitz, M.D.
Medical Director/Principal Investigator
Dr. Mark Leibowitz is an internal medicine specialist who has 13 years experience in clinical research. He received his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at University of Texas Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas. He became board certified in internal medicine in 1990. Prior to joining Cedra Clinical Research, he was an investigator on numerous clinical trials, specializing in predominantly Phase I work. He was Director of Early Drug Development and Director of Medical Services at California Clinical Trials up until his recent hire at Cedra in January 2008, where he is currently Medical Director for their San Antonio and Austin Phase I units. His clinical research background covers many diverse disease indications, with some emphasis on CNS compounds. Over the last 5 years, he has also been involved in many innovative studies such as those involving serial cerebrospinal fluid collection.
FREDERICK A. BIEBERDORF, M.D.
Physician Investigator
Dr. Fred Bieberdorf has been in the active practice of medicine for 30 years after spending 4 years on the faculty of Southwestern Medical School. Early research interests involved sugar, salt and water transport in the human intestine. After coming to Austin, pharmaceutical research has included helping establish a single daily dose of Tagamet for healing of duodenal ulcers. In addition several kinetic studies and several heartburn studies have been supervised. He has been critical of certain pharmaceutical interests that have misinterpreted physiology. Training and experience in Gastroenterology makes him valuable for studies in that field.
